It’s a concept that’s been working its way through my mind for about a year and then finally this weekend, I sat down to make it work. It’s different. I think. Music by Synthbiosis
Its called ‘Fairy Steps’.
Something a little different - not poetry but a story for ‘Halloween’ or Samhain if you prefer. The words are HERE. More to follow…
(muahahahaha) ((that’s an attempt at a spooky laugh by the way.))
:)
The wonderful poet Brad Frederikson (over at Maekitso’s Café) wrote a poem called Reparation. It had such an impact that I printed it out and posted it on my wall of inspiration (a suitable distance away from a shirtless Gary Barlow). After a few weeks of me nagging him to do a podcast, he asked me to do one. It was an absolute pleasure, sir,
Without exception, everyone who mentions my poems to me, says that this one kept coming back into their mind. That’s a nice thought. It’s perhaps one of my shortest ever poems but it says a lot, I think. Happy muzak! yay!
The Shopping List
Folded neatly, once, discarded in the basket
with a snippet of leaf from a cabbage, I think,
a pointless piece of somebody else’s life
that gets trapped between my fromage and my frais.
Carried home with me, in my bag for life,
(predictably frayed at the edges)
and perused over freshly purchased ginger tea,
I read,
‘One pt of milk,
One wholemeal sliced,
Carrot and swede (diced),
One chicken breast’
Then written in a different hand,
as though a secret thought,
or a cherished wish…
‘flowers’.
This proved to be popular at my last performance… I changed the word ‘penis’ to ‘doodah’ which didn’t do the rhythm any harm and raised an extra titter as I’d already explained what I was going to do. I wish I could perform it while I was out busking but it’s probably still a little close to the fishbone.
The music can’t be bettered - trust me, I have hunted for months now. So I have changed my voice instead and reduced the fuzz and hum. Grab your castanets!
I might be becoming obsessed with Laundry, hmmmm
but hopefully this has broken the duck. Music is by Tripleplus Feelgood
has now been put to video. Yay! You can view it by pressing here
And I cursed and cursed my washing machine breaking. Silver linings and all that… I hope to do a video next week for this. I’ve certainly got the laundry piling up in preparation. (Special thanks to the lovely lady in Bubbles Launderette, Church Road, Hove for letting me video her tumble drying last week, haha).
Music by the wonderful Somewhere Off Jazz Street once again as their voice suits this kind of poem so perfectly.
Yes, I’ve always had a thing for drummers but purely on an intellectual level, of course. This is one of my personal favourite podcasts. Music courtesy of the amazing, astounding FQU.
This has taken a lot of mixing and splicing with the music but it was important to read them altogether as they concern my main Gypsy lady and her lover. Hmmmm, now all I need is a video…
The music is courtesy of Ukele Sunnyboy, Drowrhy Creesp and Seth Troutner.
I am working on a video for this one… which so far has cost me 6 cappuccinos. It’s a hard life.
****update! The video is now finished and can be viewed here or on my blog. (press on word for direct link)****
If I were to get my arse into gear to do this collection properly, it would tell the story with this being the penultimate poem (before p.s.). Very simple, no trickery, honest in its simplicity, as it was written. Music courtesy of Jalal Ali.
will always make this a slightly uncomfortable poem for me but it is supposed to represent hypocrisy both in the church and in the media. I think God would approve, haha. (I’m going to have fun mixing a video for this.) Put this together as a nod to Philip and his project.
I’ve been searching for the right music for this one for ages! Thanks to Somewhere Off Jazz Street for making their music freely available, which means I have now finally been able to finish this podcast. It is one of my favourites. Very different to my others but hopefully still entertaining…
******** This poem has been re-recorded and the track laid down onto an original video. If you would like to view it, it is over on my blog (press here for link-blog) or you can also view it on youtube (press here for link-youtube) ***********************
I’ll have to do this again when I haven’t got a cold, haha. I have had good advice that I must hone these down to the absolute favourites and not try to include everything in the final mix… so I may have to badger people to make a top ten or something equally demoralising (only kidding, I truly appreciate hearing opinions). Anyway, this is a little one that I like as a poem and I think the music serves it well?…
I really just wanted to call this Life, but I thought that might be a little melodramatic (which I am trying to avoid lately, ha!) The consensus seems to be Life in C Major but I shall keep the title above for now. Oh well, deep breath and…
Music by Vitali Kram available for free download here
Just for me probably. Hmmmm… can you tell the metaphor in the last section? Or is it just my abstract mind one step too far? (Yes, that’s a car horn at the critical point - bastard white van man!)
I can’t do the umlaut in the title, which is frustrating the bejeebers out of me, so I’ll do it here…
Für Elise Dan you are amazing and I am SO thrilled with this. I owe you a mint tea.
I like this one too. The sound is still a little crap, I know… but it’s all good practice (and I’m having fun too, Mr. Moo)
blimey it took me hours but this is the best it’s going to get with the equipment I have for now.I love it though. Truly love it. I’ll keep working on new versions until it’s perfect… perfectly. Deep breath before you hit play, please.
